We recently received an email from Mary H., RDH from Ohio, who wrote: “Our dental office just received samples of PeriZone PerioPatch, and I was wondering if you could tell us what the patch is made of?” Great question, Mary. The ingredients are as follows:Ethylcellulose, polyacrylic acid, Sambucus nigra, castor oil, acacia gum, methyl hydroxylpropyl cellulose, glycerol, strawberry flavor, Centella asiatica, titanium dioxide, Echinacea purpurea, polysorbate 80, CI 77491.
The herbal ingredients, in combination, help the patch to adhere quite readily to gingival and mucosal tissue. The patch is held in place gently, yet firmly. If you try it for yourself, you will see that the hydrogel wound dressing is easy to apply and stays in place securely.
Although the PerioPatch itself is small in size, its oral wound management benefits are plentiful. The patch is beneficial in two ways: First, it acts as a physical barrier against outside irritants like food. Second, for patients with braces or removable appliances, it can protect an already irritated gums area and help ward off additional irritation.
Thanks for the question, Mary. Feel free to contact us again after you’ve had a chance to try it with some patients.
